Scientists, Christians and Creationists

Science and religion have not always been seen as opposing worldviews. In fact, the birth of modern science is intimately related to the Christian religion. Early scientists developed their research with the intention of discovering the laws and mechanisms used by God in the creation and workings of the universe. In all ages, even today, great scientists have combined and complemented their scientific activity with their faith in God and an active religious life. Some of them, moreover, have decided to trust that the biblical account of origins tells what really happened, and have found scientific evidence to support this idea.

Leonard R. Brand is a researcher and professor of Biology and Paleontology at Loma Linda University. He has published his research in scientific journals and has a PhD from Cornell University.

Noemí Durán - Natural Selection, Epigenetics, and Environment

Noemí Durán is a biologist specialized in animal behavior. She has a PhD in Marine Biology from Loma Linda University and is the director of the European headquarters of the Geoscience Research Institute.

Timothy Standish - Mutations, Darwin, and Theory of Evolution

Timothy Standish is a biologist specialized in genetics and has a PhD from George Mason University. He is a Senior Researcher and responsible for communication and audiovisual production at the Geoscience Research Institute.

Part of this testimony of the creatorship and godliness of God is material, and can be encountered in the study of the natural world. In this presentation, Dr. Phillips discusses some of the realities revealed in the Bible that are also discoverable using the methods of science, and shares her personal experience of amazement in encountering, while studying biochemistry, a God who is truly worthy of worship.

Noemí Durán - In the Beginning, There Was Love

“Survival of the fittest" and “struggle for existence." You have probably heard these expressions before, likely in connection with one of the most famous concepts in evolution: natural selection. Competition and violence are presented as the necessary tool that allowed for the emergence of biodiversity, in contrast with the biblical account of a “very good" creation. In this talk, Dr. Durán illustrates fascinating examples of altruism and cooperation in the animal world, challenging the dominant narrative and pointing back to the time when animals were designed to show the loving character of God.

Ronny Nalin - In the Beginning God Created

Does the Bible present an understanding of origins that is obsolete in light of modern advancements in scientific knowledge? Are there better witnesses to truth than the Word of God, when it comes to origins? In this talk, Dr. Nalin shares his testimony of trust in the infinite wisdom of the Word of God, and introduces contributions from other scientists who have dedicated their life to the study of nature and have found that God's revelation is trustworthy in a way that pierces through all times and cultures.
